Scott's Surgery

Scott seems to be doing ok after his surgery. See, 10 years ago he had a major operation on his leg. It was not growing together right (from a previous break a few years before) and he had it rebroke and reset. What should have been a relatively simple procedure, ended up with a staph infection, a bone graft (7 surgeries and 1 year recovery). As part of the treatment for the staph infection, he had an IV port put in chest for liquid antibiotics. There has always been a hard place under the skin that he thought was scar tissue. Recently, that area started bothering him. It was burning, sensitive and hurting. He went to the doctor, had an ultrasound, an X-ray and a CT scan. All with in three days. We were concerned about blood clots, infection and all kinds of other things. He goes to a vascular surgeon (the same group that put in and removed his IV port). They did some more tests and then the doctor operates in the office. The doctor was convinced it was scar tissue - we were sure it was something else. I was there for the procedure, but didn't think they would allow me to take pictures, so I don't have any. Turns out, a piece of the port (sleeve/cap) was left in him when they removed the line 10 years ago. The piece they removed was about the size of my pinky finger to the first joint. They stitched him up, put in a drain and we were on our way. What a way to end 2008! He had the stitches taken out a week later. I'm glad God has given him a high tolerance for pain with all he has to go through. We are thankful that everything went smoothly and he is healing nicely.
