For several years now Scott has wanted to go to Illinois and visit the Crossen's and hopefully do some hunting for an Illinois white tail. Scott came into the church under Bro. and Sis. Crossen and we love their family dearly. Bro. Crossen married us. (we wanted to be the first wedding he performed but some others jumped line on us!) It has been about 8 years since we last saw them and had talked about going their way for the last few years. Since this was our 10 year anniversary, we decided it would be our big trip.
So we (meaning Scott) loaded up the trunk with hunting stuff, we packed our bags and off we went. I was a little nervous because Scott had lost his Illinois permit and I wasn't sure they would issue him another one. But the kind folks at Walmart Illinios fixed him right up (sigh of relief).
It was great seeing them again. The boys grew up on me. The oldest is now a senior and the youngest soon to be a teenager. It was an adjustment to me - they are still 8 and 2 in my mind. They have grown into wonderful young men - serving God and active in their church.
Scott did a LOT of hunting and finally it paid off. On Thursday morning he killed his first deer with a bow and arrow (rifles are not allowed in IL for deer). It wasn't just a "first" deer - but one that he wants to mount (with an outline of the state of IL as a background - cool huh?) It was 9 points and probably weighed about 240 pounds.
We are very thankful to the Crossen's for letting us come and for helping Scott make some great memories and get a trophy buck.
The Crossens asked that we not post pictures of them and I am honoring that request - in case you were wondering why there were none in this post.
