I hate to be a pessimists, but I fear the faithful Escort has met it's demise. A young driver was apparently talking on the cell phone when she ran a red light and hit the car. This was my very first brand new car and it has served me/us well through the years. It was just 1000 miles short of 200K and was still doing good. It has been Scott's work car for the last couple of years. Thanks to Scott's defensive driving and God's mercy, the accident was not as bad as it could have been. No one was injured (other than the jar from the impact) and I hope the young lady learned a lesson. Scott and my brother-in-law were turning right with a green light (had been green a while) when Scott looked over his shoulder and saw he coming. He slammed on brakes so she only hit the front of the car, not the side. The impact pushed the car into the curb and messed up the passenger side also. The front tire looks bent and the door was hard to open. We are not sure yet if the frame was bent. But the tires wouldn't move when Scott tried to back it up for the wrecker. The radiator was smashed and it had to be towed home. We are now awaiting the insurance finalization (at least they had insurance!) but we are pretty sure it they will consider it "totalled". Here are a couple of pictures. Once again, I thank the Lord no one was injured.
